Adalberto aka "Al" Rivera, age 64 of Plainfield, passed away on March 18th, 2021 at Lutheran General Hospital, surrounded by his loving family following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Utuado, Puerto Rico then a resident of the beautiful city of Chicago. Then lived in Plainfield, Illinois for the last 23 years. He is the son of Narciso Rivera-Andujar and Awilda Rosado-Vera-Alanis.
Adalberto received his GED, he then enlisted into the United States Army where he was an Infantryman. He joined the 82nd Airborne Division out of Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Later he attended University of Illinois in Chicago. He worked at the Illinois Department of Human Services, where he was able to help the children and their family, where he still has many friends. Adalberto was a movie huge buff, he collected movies as a hobby. He also enjoyed photography and Skydiving; these were some of his passions. His priority and most importantly was spending time with his family.
Surviving is his wife of 33 years, Wanda I. (Lugo) Rivera, from Chicago and his three children, Jonathan A. Rivera (daughter-in-law Martha Cerda), Jeremy A. Rivera (Odalyz Naverette), and Jessica A. Rivera. As well as his 3 beautiful granddaughters, Ariana, Analise and Xyla Rivera. Mother Awilda Rosado-Vera-Alanis, Schiller Park, IL. Father Narciso Rivera Andujar, San German, Puerto Rico. Sister, Mryna Rivera Wands (brother-in-law Robert Wands) Niece Natasha Wands of St. Charles, IL. Also (Brother-In- Law's, Jimmy Lugo of Chicago, IL and Ivan Lugo of Berwyn, IL. And Father-in-Law, Antonio Lugo of Berwyn, IL, Mother-in-Law Virgen DeJesus, Chicago, IL) who loved him and respected him.
As it was Adalberto's request Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial gathering will be held on Friday March 26, 2021 at the Blackburn-Giegerich-Sonntag Funeral Home, 1500 Black Road, Joliet IL 60435 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. There will be an Honor Guard beginning at 5:00 PM and a Masonic Service at 6:30 PM.
Face masks are required, social distancing and capacity requirements will be observed.
