William E. Fields

William E. “Bill” Fields of Joliet, IL passed away on May 13, 2026, at the age of 83.

Born in Joliet to Dr. J.E. Fields and Elizabeth Gouger Fields. Bill lead a life defined by his love of family, neighbors and friends. He had a passion for literature, history, gardening, model trains and all manner of craftmanship.

Bill is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph E. Fields and Elizabeth Gouger Fields, and his daughter Amy Kirsten Fields.

He is survived by his sisters Elizabeth (James) Schultz, Mary Jo Fields, by his nephew Erik Joseph and niece Elyse Nicole. Also survived by numerous cousins.

Bill graduated from Joliet Township High School and Lewis University. He was employed for many years by the Elgin Joliet and Eastern Railroad and by U.S. Steel.

A visitation will be held at the Blackburn-Giegerich-Sonntag Funeral Home, Tuesday May 19, 2026 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Lightways Hospice and Serious Care.
