Laura L. Wright (nee Woodward) Of Joliet, passed away peacefully at St. Patrick’s Residence in Naperville IL on Saturday June 13th, 2026, at the age of 83 years.

Laura was born on April 4th, 1943, in Joliet to Catherine E. Woodward (nee Kokjohn) and Walter E. “Woody” Woodward. She graduated from Joliet Township High School in 1961.

Laura worked for the State of Illinois Dept of Corrections and ran the business office for Stateville Penitentiary for 40 dedicated years.

She leaves behind a wonderful legacy and is survived by her son Michael (Jennifer Durbin); very proud grandmother of Mary Olson (Spencer), Bridget Wright and Conor Wright. Laura also leaves behind her dear sister Karen Wright, along with sister-in-law Jackie Wright; loving aunt of Ron Wright (Angela), Kim Wright, Carey Fellows (Tiffany), and Joe Curry (Ashley). Also survived by her dear and close friends.

Preceded in death by her parents Catherine and Walter Woodward. Two sisters, Mary E. and Linda Kay Woodward. Former husband James L. Wright, whom she maintained a lifelong friendship.

Laura’s son, daughter-in-law, and especially her grandchildren meant everything. Her thoughtful heart made sure no one felt forgotten. Laura’s love for her entire family was always present as a source of support, encouragement, and love in their lives. She was always generous, thoughtful, and had a caring spirit. She always put others first and quietly looked out for everyone around her. Laura was a Life Member for 50 years of service with the Moose Chapter 84. Laura’s warmth, kindness and unwavering devotion to her family, faith community at Hope United Methodist Church, and cherished friends will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who were blessed to know her.

Visitation will begin at 9:30 AM – 11:000 AM Friday, June 19th, 2026, followed by a Funeral Service beginning at 11:00 AM at Blackburn-Giegerich-Sonntag Funeral Home located at 1500 Black Rd. Joliet IL 60435. Internment Woodlawn Memorial Park 23060 W. Jefferson St. Joliet IL 60431.
