Francis Erwin Hughes Jr.
Age 73, passed away peacefully Saturday, May 30, 2026 at The Arc of Dwight.
Francis is survived by his loving wife of 52 years Patsy Hughes; son Kevin (Chassidy) Hughes; daughters Mary (Ricky) Maxwell and Meagan (Trey) Mugler; 12 grandchildren Jason Grochow, Bryan Hughes, Kiara (Mitch) Paradeis, Keagan (Logan) Maxwell, Destiny Karger, Miya (Tyler) Maxwell, Shy Maxwell, Kenneth Karger, Nevaeh Maxwell, Akirah Mugler, Olie Gilbertson and Sirone Mugler; 7 great grandchildren Luna, Miles, Cayto, Jordynn, Bentley, Buck and Ivy; 5 brothers Kim (Sally), Vance (Shelly), Robert Sr. (Brijida), Roger (the late Jean), Kerry (Marla); two sisters Kathy (Randall) Bourg and Karen (Richard) Lee; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Francis E. Hughes Sr. and Anna Mae Hughes; one great grandson Jason; two sisters-in-law Jean Hughes and Jody Richardson; three nephews Roger Hughes Jr., Lenny Hughes and Joshua Terdic; one niece Christina Bourg.
Born in Joliet. He was a lifetime member of Annunciation Byzantine Catholic Church formerly Sy. Mary Assumption. As a young man he was a member of the Joliet East High School. May 11, 1974 he married Patsy J. Hughes (Roberts). He was a carpenter out of Local #181 for many years.
Francis was the rock of the family. He was there for anyone that needed him. He never knew a stranger, and would talk to anyone where ever he went. He loved spending time with his family. He had a rough battle with his health and fought to the very end. Francis was a hard working man that was always dedicated to his family and will definitely be missed by so many. He will never be forgotten.
Visitation will be held Thursday June 4, 2026 from 4-8 p.m. at the Blackburn-Giegerich-Sonntag Funeral Home. Rite of Christian Burial will be held Friday June 5, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at the Annunciation Byzantine Catholic Church, 14610 S. Will Cook Rd, Homer Glen, IL 60491.
