Walter I Jones, Jr

Walter Idris Jones, Jr. died at home on August 4, 2013, in New Berlin, Wisconsin. He was born on November 14, 1921, in Joliet, the son of Mildred and Walter Jones. He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Arline Hart Jones, and his sisters, Margaret Jones and Catherine Wallace. He is survived by his children: Susan (James) Turgeon of Apple Valley, Mn; Steven Jones of Galesburg, IL; and Barbara (William) Reed of New Berlin, as well as his grandchildren: Katherine and Brian Reed. Walt and Arline met in Minneapolis and were married on September 23, 1946. They lived in Joliet until 2000 when they moved to New Berlin, Wisconsin. A graduate of Vanderbilt University, after serving in the Army in WWII Walt 's career included positions at Farrell Mfg. Co, Osborn Brothers Supply Co. in Joliet and Stephens Adamson/Sealmaster in Aurora. He was proud to have been one of the founders of the George Werden Buck Boys and Girls Club in Joliet and served as its board president. He was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church, as well as the Community Chest (United Way) and the Joliet Association of Commerce. While in New Berlin he loved volunteering at Hoover Elementary School. Walt was an avid golfer, and he and Arline enjoyed many golfing trips as well as gathering with friends for games, cards and laughter. One of his great joys during his years in New Berlin was being able to watch his grandchildren grow up. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday August 7, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church. Interment Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery. Visitation Wednesday morning at St .John Lutheran Church at 10:00 a.m. until time of Services. Memorials may be made to the altar guild of St John Lutheran Church.
