Sue Anne (Smiley) Girard, age 81, of Shorewood, IL, passed away January 1, 2026 after years of living with Alzheimer’s disease.
Sue was born on August 22, 1944 in Plainfield, IL. She graduated from Plainfield High School in 1962, having never missed a day of class throughout her school years. Sue devoted many years to raising her family as a stay-at-home mom before beginning a career as an Administrative Assistant at the Shorewood–Troy Library. She worked there for 27 years, retiring in 2014. She was an active member of the Plainfield Congregational Church, sharing her love of music as a choir singer. She belonged to a local book group, enjoyed a monthly ‘lunch brunch’ with her high school classmates, and cherished the time she spent with friends and family. She was an always present spectator at her grandchildren’s sporting events, choir concerts, dance recitals, and musical performances. Sue had a deep love for horses and found great joy in riding. She fulfilled a lifelong dream when she purchased her own horse, Jaybee, in 1985.
Sue is survived by her loving daughter Amy (Gary) Lee of Joliet, IL. Grandsons Ryan, Dylan and Jayden Lee of Joliet, IL, granddaughters, Sydney Robison-Girard of Manhattan, IL and Niki Girard of Plainfield, IL. She is also survived by sister-in-law, Judy Smiley of Moline, IL. Numerous nieces, nephews and friends also survive. Sue is preceded in death by her husband William Tally and her sons, Neal and Thomas.
Services for Sue will be Thursday, Jan. 8, 2026, at Blackburn-Giegerich-Sonntag Funeral Home with visitation beginning at 4:00 p.m., followed by a Memorial Service at 7:00 p.m.
