E. Rosemary Shaw: born July 15, 1937 – December 24, 2025
Rosemary Shaw (nee Robbins) passed away peacefully on Christmas Eve morning at the age of 88. She was born on July 15, 1937, in Joliet, Illinois to the late Theda Robbins (nee Weddel) and late Earl Robbins.
She was the beloved daughter of Theda and Earl Robbins; sister to the late Theda Faye (Pat) Stahl (nee Robbins).
Rosemary graduated from Joliet Township High School in 1955. Her pursuit of knowledge was lifelong, earning degrees from Joliet Junior College, Lewis University and Northeastern Illinois University. Her passion for education shaped not only her career but also the lives of countless students and colleagues. As a teacher and administrator for over 33 years, she brought wisdom, compassion, and unwavering commitment to every classroom and school she touched. Her journey began as an elementary school teacher and administrator (St. Anne’s, Central Elementary School, Principal at Richland Elementary) and finished as a special education teacher/administrator at Joliet Township High School Alternate School.
Rosemary was the beloved wife of Larry Mayfield Shaw and was married June 25, 1960. They were happily married for 57 years before Larry’s passing in 2018. They were blessed with three children, son, Kevin Shaw (Kimmy); son, Brian Shaw (Mary); daughter, Stacey Shaw; sister Pat Stahl (Ben), brother-in-law Lee Shaw (Gail); sister-in-law, Carol Shaw (nee Crowley); many grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother-in-law John B. (Jack) Shaw and sister Pat Stahl.
Family was the heart of Rosemary’s world. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, aunt, and a cherished grandmother. Her warmth and generosity extended beyond her immediate family, embracing nieces, nephews, and all who were fortunate to know her. After retirement, Rosemary continued to nurture young minds by volunteering at her grandchildren’s schools, sharing her love for reading and supporting their activities.
Even as she faced the challenges of dementia, Rosemary’s spirit remained bright. She found joy in music, dancing, and daily social connections, reminding everyone around her of the importance of living fully and embracing each moment.
In loving memory of Rosemary Shaw, whose life was a testament to kindness, dedication, and the power of education, a Celebration of Life will be held at Blackburn-Giegerich-Sonntag in Joliet, IL. Visitation will be held Sat, Jan. 3rd from 9:00 to 11:00am. Service will be held at 11:00 am followed by graveside ceremony, Woodlawn Memorial Park, and luncheon to follow.
Donations may be made to Joliet Central HS for the establishment of a student scholarship in Rosemary’s name.
Thank you to her special caregivers, the nurses and staff at Willow Falls and Lightways Hospice and the family and friends that have supported us. Her memory will be celebrated and live on in the hearts of those touched by her kindness.
