Rose M McCowan (née Edmonds)

 

Age 79. Passed away unexpectedly at her home in New Lenox, IL on Wednesday February 1, 2023. 

 

Born in Joliet, IL on August 30, 1943 to the late William “Foley” and Grace (Arnett) Edmonds.

 

Rose graduated from Joliet Township High School in 1961. She was very active in the reunion committee having planned all the reunions from their first to the most recent 60th. 

 

For the better part of 3 decades, Rose worked or volunteered for the Rialto Square Theatre in Joliet, IL. Rose started in 1984 as a receptionist where she loved to lead the tours of the building. Rose volunteered backstage with the stars where she ran the “Rosie’s Diner” green room. In later years, Rose worked in the ticket office. 

 

While working and volunteering at the Rialto, Rose had her full time job at Crane Composites (Kemlite) in Channahon, IL.  Rose started as a receptionist in 1988 and transitioned to full time travel coordinator until her retirement in 2013. 

 

Not one for the sedentary life, Rose started a new job with Chicagoland Speedway in 2014.  She could be found in the offices or the cash room on race weekends. Rose worked events at the track until 2022.  

 

When Rose had spare time, she was a dedicated Band Mom for Oakview Jr High band and the Lincoln-Way Marching Knights for a total of 16 years. Rose loved to read, garden, bake, and plan luncheons for her friends and family. Rose was an advocate for animals having rescued many dogs and cats throughout the years. 

 

Beside her parents, Rose is preceded in death by her husband Donald L, brothers in law and sisters Bernard and Alberta (Sturtz) Fulkerson, John and Betty (Edmonds) Debelak, William and Shirley (Edmonds) Blaylock, Roger Taylor and Vonna (Edmonds) Cantu. 

 

Rose is survived by her children Scott M. of New Lenox, IL and Erin K of Woodstock, IL, sister Barbara (Edmonds) Taylor of Ft. Myers, FL , brother in law John Cantu of Joliet, IL and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. 

 

Funeral services provided by Blackburn-Giegerich-Sonntag Funeral Home on Saturday February 11, 2023. Visitation from 8:00-11:00am with a service from 11:00-11:30. Interment directly follows the service at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Joliet IL. 

 

To honor Rose’s love for animals, in lieu of flowers, memorials to the Will Country Humane Society, 24109 Seil Road, Shorewood IL  60404 would be appreciated.
