Mary Ellen Aimaro Nee:Gaffney

Age94, passed away Friday, May 9, 2025 at Sunny Hill Nursing Home of Will County.

Survived by her three children Joseph (Jan) Aimaro, Linda (Frank) Turk and Art (Sarah) Aimaro; grandchildren Peter (Aundrea) Aimaro, Anna Aimaro, Adam Turk, Carolyn Schmidt and Gregory Aimaro; two great grandchildren Abigail Grace Schmidt and Payton Francis Schmidt. Special friends Judy, Ronnie, Richelle, Dolly, Jody and Dianne. Numerous nieces, nephews and The Golden Girls at Sunny Hill Irene, Libby, Carol, Kathy and Andy.

Preceded in death by her husband Peter Aimaro; parents Arthur and Edith (Calcaterra) Gaffney; sisters Patricia Tasalie, Amelia Hansel, Frances Gaffney and Betty Smith; sister-in-law Betty Bianchetta.

Born in Joliet, she was a lifelong area resident. Mary graduated from Scared Heart Grade School and Joliet Township High School. Member of St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Mary loved to have a clean house, enjoyed cooking for family and friends, and taking care of her grandchildren.

The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff at Sunny Hill for their compassion and loving care they gave to Mary during her stay, they brought a ray of sunshine to her life. The family would also a thank Lightways Hospice. They were a blessing.

Visitation for Mary will be Wednesday May 21, 2025 at Blackburn-Giegerich-Sonntag Funeral Home, 1500 Black Rd Joliet from 10:00 am to 12:30 pm with a service at 12:30 pm. Interment will follow.

Mary will be interred with her husband at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery. Memorials in Mary's name to the Shriner's Hospital, 2211 N. Oak Park Ave., Chicago, IL 60707 or at shrinerschildrens.org would be appreciated.
