Mark Snodgrass, born September 18, 1958, in Munich, Germany, passed away on November 15, 2025, after a hard-fought battle with cancer. As the son of an Army serviceman, Mark spent his childhood living in many places, including Virginia, Oklahoma, and Hawaii, before eventually making Joliet, Illinois the place he called home. Mark’s early career as an IT technician took him around the world, giving him the chance to travel extensively and even live briefly in Paris—an experience he cherished for the rest of his life and spoke of often. He later found his professional home at University of St. Francis in Joliet, where he served with dedication as Director of Network Support Services for 33 years. St. Francis was more than a workplace to Mark; the people there became a second family, and he took great pride in helping and supporting those around him. Mark was known for his quick wit, and appreciated a good basketball game, spending many years coaching both of his daughters, always encouraging them with his guiding motto: “Let the game come to you.” He also found joy in the quiet challenge of the golf course, where he was truly at his happiest. Mark approached life the same way he approached his work and his hobbies—with dedication, calm focus, and pride in a job well done. His presence, his humor, and his steady encouragement will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his wife, Molly Snodgrass (Burns), his daughters Amanda Brady (Tom) and Amelia Goetschel (Joe), his grandchildren Carter, Max, Finley, Emerson, and Sheamus, half-brother Jimmy Kershaw, and half-sister Ginny Gomillion (Kershaw). Mark is preceded in death by his parents James and Aileen, his brothers Ron and Terry, and his daughter, Curry. Mark made clear he did not wish to have a traditional funeral. He wanted a celebration, a chance for everyone he loved (and everyone who loved him) to come together, laugh, and share stories. We invite friends, family, co-workers and anyone who knew him and his family to join us for an Open House Celebration of Life on Thursday, November 20th from 4–8 p.m. at Corrigan’s Irish Pub in Shorewood – 700 W Jefferson St, Shorewood, IL 60431. In lieu of flowers, Mark’s family has asked for donations to be made in his name to Joliet Lightways Hospice and Serious Illness Care.
