Jessie Belle Drew

Age 94, passed away peacefully Monday July 14th, 2025 at Sunny Hill Nursing Home of Will County.

Survived by her loving daughter Michelle (Michael) Varman; grandchildren Nicholas and Samantha Varman; sister-in-law Jeanne Drew. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

Preceded in death by her son Scott in infancy; parents Ross and Vera (Barr); brothers Russell (Ginny), Richard (Donna), David, Merle (Lois) and Earl (Judith); sisters Betty (Milton) Spires and Dorothy (Harold) Baude; niece Renee (James) Stoddard and nephew Todd Drew.

Born in Joliet, a lifelong resident. Graduated from Joliet Township High School Class of 1949. She was a member of the former Faith United Methodist Church choir and a former Sunday School teacher. Jessie had a long career in food service, working at Kroger Grocery Store in various capacities and eventually owned and operated her bakery “Michelle’s Pastry Shop” in Shorewood. She retired from working in the cafeteria at Silver Cross Hospital.

Jessie’s family wishes to extend their sincerest thanks to those at Sunny Hill Nursing Home, especially the staff of 1st Avenue and the activities staff. Her family is eternally grateful for the exceptional care and compassion that was shown towards her. Jessie will be dearly missed by those close to her.

Funeral services will be held Friday July 18th, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at Blackburn-Giegerich-Sonntag Funeral Home. Visitation Friday morning at 11:00 a.m. until time of services. Private interment will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations to Friends of Sunny Hill or Lightways Hospice would be greatly appreciated.
