Carl Edward McCann

70, of Joliet, passed away peacefully on March 31st, 2026 attended by those he loved, and with the assistance of LightWays Hospice.

Born May 1, 1955 in Joliet to Edward and Lois McCann, he attended Holy Family Grade School, where he served as an altar boy. He attended Joliet West High school.

By working in electronics at Goldblatts department store in Joliet, Carl put himself through college at Louis University, becoming a certified public accountant.

One of his first jobs was working at the United States Department of Agriculture for the office of the Inspector General. That position brought him to live for a few years in California.

In the 80s, he worked for the office of the Inspector General for the United States office of Veteran Affairs.

In the 90s, he worked for the city of Chicago Department of Finance

Later on, he became the Budget Analyst for the city of Joliet in the Department of Finance.

Carl enjoyed collecting cars. Over the years he owned an IROCZ ,a Plymouth Barracuda, and his pride and joy, his shiny red Corvette.

Carl loved animals. He owned several ferrets, and served as a volunteer treasurer for the Greater Chicago Ferret Association for several years.

In his lifetime he owned several beloved dogs, and each one held a special place in his heart. Most recent pets are his calico cat, Samantha, and his beloved dog, Rosco.

Carl and Rosco, were regulars at the Hammel Woods dog park, where he made a lot of lasting friendships.

Carl is survived by his brother Lawrence McCann (Jessie) of Camarillo, California and sister Kathleen Slovick (Jeffrey) of Glen Ellyn Illinois, and three nieces Julia, Whitney and Katie and godson Eric. Also left grieving are his beloved dog Rosco and his pet calico cat, Samantha.

Carl was Preceded in death by his parents and brother Paul McCann, who passed in 2011.

As per Carl’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded and no services will be held.
