Barbara Jean Hall, of Manhattan, Illinois passed away Friday, November 21, 2025 at the age of 92 surrounded by her family. Born March 24, 1933 in Council Bluffs, Iowa to Henry and Ruth (Smock) Plummer and having graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in 1951, she moved to Joliet, Illinois to be with her sister’s family. She soon met her future husband, Dick Hall, and they were married in 1958. After building a house in Ranch Oaks Subdivision, she raised a family of three children and was involved in many social, advocacy, and charitable organizations. She served as a board member for Trinity Services, serving special needs individuals, and was a founding member of Judson Church, then Judson Memorial Baptist Church. She was also a charter member of GFWC Manhattan Women's Club, and involved with Trinity Friends and Family parent group, Antique Auto Club of Joliet, various groups at Judson Church, Illinois Association for Retarded Children, Beta Sigma Phi sorority, and worked at Trinity Daycare. She was active in Manhattan Women's Club events and groups for 50 years, having served as president. She coordinated a group of Women’s Club friends sewing 127 bedspreads for Trinity Services individuals, Manteno Veterans, and other charity causes. She helped to organize the Trinity Services’ annual garage sale, organized many meals at Judson Church and served meals at Daybreak Mission. She enjoyed traveling to spend time with her out-of-state family and had a wide circle of friends, nieces, and nephews who were an integral part of her life. She loved animals, especially dogs, and was a passionate gardener, known for her love of daylilies.
She was a devoted mother to her children Amy Hall, Elizabeth Higgins (David), and Charles Hall (Erica Hyre) and loving grandmother to Kyle, Samuel, and Thomas Higgins. She is preceded in death by her husband, Richard P. Hall, her sister Margaret Miller, Margaret’s husband Dale, her brother Richard Plummer, and his wife Mary.
Funeral Services will be held, Saturday November 29, 2025, 10:00 a.m. at the Blackburn-Giegerich-Sonntag Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Elmhurst Cemetery. Visitation Friday 3-7 p.m.
