Alberta (Nowack) Dixon was born in Pana, IL on May 9th, 1922, and passed away peacefully with her sons at her side on February 8th, 2023 at the home she and her husband built in Joliet over 50 years ago. Alberta left Pana in 1940 to attend Graceland College in Lamoni, Iowa. She left school to live in Chicago and work downtown. She then joined the Army in WWII serving in the Woman’s Army Corps (WAC). Shortly after the war, Alberta returned to Pana and met George Dixon who had also returned from the war. The two wed and moved to Joliet, IL where she remained throughout the rest of her life. Alberta enjoyed global travel and spoke highly of her many trips to Europe. She enjoyed reading and spending time with friends.
Alberta is preceded in death by her parents, Edward Nowack and Margaret (Davis) Nowack, her husband George and almost all of her friends. She is survived by her two sons and daughters in law John and Michelle Dixon and David and Cathy Dixon, their families including four grandchildren Alexa (Michael) Hamby, Haley Dixon, Grace Dixon and Nathaniel Dixon, and one great grandchild Violet Hamby.
Visitation will be held Saturday, February 11, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. followed by services at 3:00 p.m. at Grace United Methodist Church. Interment Woodlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, Alberta would appreciate memorials sent to your favorite charity in her name.
