Marvin Johnson, age 85, passed away peacefully Wednesday, November 7, 2018 at Presence St. Joseph Medical Center with his family at his side.

Survived by his children Bruce (Lenora), Bryan (Mary), Wayne Johnson, Robert (Connie) Heitzman; grandchildren Karl Johnson, Tabatha (Kyle) Keenon, Kelly Johnson, Jonathan (Kate) Johnson, Katie (Cole) Pasderetz, Matthew (Amy) Heitzman, Andrew (Kristyn) Heitzman, Joshua (Amiee Barrera) Heitzman; great grandchildren Addison, Alek, Aubree and Donovan; one sister Marilyn (Hayden) Huckins and sister-in-law Joan Segerberg.

Preceded in death by his wife of 61 years Lois (Segerberg) Johnson; parents Walter and Lillian Johnson.

Born in Joliet, a lifetime resident.  Graduated from Joliet Township High School Class of 1951, and then attended Joliet Junior College. Member of the Shepherd of the Hill Lutheran Church in Lockport; Veteran of the United States Navy.      

Proud member of the Joliet American Legion Band for over 65 years. He often spoke of the great friendship he developed with fellow band members.

Marvin’s first job was working for Meadow-Gold Dairy. In 1967, he continued his career promoting music programs at the elementary and high school levels. He fitted many students with their first musical instrument. His greatest joys were fishing and camping with his family, and playing the tuba with his sons.

Visitation will be held Monday, November 12 from 4-8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at the Blackburn-Giegerich-Sonntag Funeral Home.  Funeral services will be held Tuesday,  November 13 at 11:00 a.m. at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery.
