Jacqueline Ann (Corwin) Schwab

August 28, 1933 ~ October 5, 2018 (age 85)

Jacqueline A. Schwab passed away peacefully among family and friends in Crest Hill, Illinois on October 5, 2018. She was born to Montrose and Mabel Corwin (nee Miller) and raised in Joliet, Illinois.

She is survived by her three children, three grandchildren, sister Jean Conroy, and sister-in-law Patricia Corwin. Jackie was preceded in death by her loving husband of 56 years, James (Jim) D. Schwab, her sister Mardel, and brothers Monte and Ed.

Jackie graduated from Joliet Township High School. She married Jim and moved to Coronado, California where they lived while Jim served in the United States Navy. After the Navy, Jim and Jackie returned to Joliet and expanded their family with sons Steve and Greg and daughter Kathy.

Jackie and her family moved to Gresham, Oregon and began a nearly 50 year adventure in the Pacific Northwest. Jackie served as a reading teacher for the Centennial School District where she helped a generation of children begin to enjoy a lifetime of reading.

Jackie was also very active in her church where she organized and led many years of vacation bible school and the Christmas Holiday festival and bazaar known as ‘Holly Days.’

Jackie’s favorite pastime was taking photos of family as well as photos of the Oregon Coast and Cascade Mountains. She was a family legend for always capturing the happiest moments at each and every family event. Never one to rest, Jackie always found a reason to walk. Walking was an activity she enjoyed her entire life.

Jackie’s family sincerely thanks her extended family, friends, and those who cared for her and loved her as if she were a member of their own family. They especially want to thank her sister Jean, Jackie’s older sister and best friend.

While we will miss her greatly but we will remember her when we visit the ocean, when we get together as a family, when we take photos, when we see a young child begin to read, when we see people walking for fun, when we see a mother loving her kids, and especially when we feel the hand of God, we will know she is with us.

A private committal service will be held at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Jackie to Reading is Fundamental (RIF), Inc. at www.rif.org/support-rif.
