Virginia "Ginny" Dow (nee Bussey) of Joliet, IL, passed away peacefully on August 21, 2017 at the age of 74.
A lifelong resident of Joliet, Ginny attended St. Raymond's Catholic School, where she met her husband and best friend of 51 years, Bill. She went on to graduate from Joliet Township High School in 1961. Ginny worked at Argonne National Laboratories much of her life. She started her career as a secretary in Human Resources, was later promoted to the position of Assistant to the Laboratory Director, and eventually retired as a Human Resource Specialist.
Ginny was an active member of the community and her parish. While her children attended St. Raymond's, she served as President of both the Mother's Club and the School Board.
Always the competitor, she coached girls' volleyball, basketball and softball throughout the 1980's. She was an active member of Childerguild for most of her adult life, spending many weekends volunteering her time at the Silver Cross Hospital gift shop.
Ginny loved playing bridge and euchre with several different groups, going out to dinner with her high school and Argonne friends, and spending time with her grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Catherine (nee Flynn) Bussey, and brother Walter Bussey, Jr.
She is survived by her loyal and loving husband Bill; daughter Jennifer (Joe) larrobino, and son Bill. She will be greatly missed by her three grandsons, Frankie, Danny and J.J. larrobino.
Ginny is also survived by siblings Tom (Noreen) Bussey, Kay (Lynn) Krause, Mary Ellen (Bill) Kursell, Sue (Rudy) Mihelich, and Pat (Jim) Buchar; sister-in-law Mary, cousin Jim Ganson, fifteen godchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ginny's family would like to extend a special thank-you to the staff at Senior Star, Lakewood Nursing Center, and Kindred Hospice for their loving care and support of Ginny over the years.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Friday August 25, 2017 at Blackburn-Giegerich-Sonntag Funeral Home. Funeral from the Blackburn-Giegerich-Sonntag Funeral Home, Saturday, at 11:30 a.m. to The Cathedral of St. Raymond Nonnatus for Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 p.m. Interment Resurrection Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Raymond's School in Joliet or the Alzheimer's Association would be appreciated.
