Sheldon C. Bell of Plainfield, IL. passed away on Thursday, July 13, 2017 at the age of 83. Sheldon was born on May 2, 1934 in Oswego, IL to the late Dr. Sheldon F. Bell and Ellen P. (Lofdahl) Bell.
Sheldon graduated from Oswego High School in 1952 and Northern Illinois University with a degree in Chemistry in 1957. Sheldon married Patricia F. Conner on September 8, 1956. He was the President of Coldwell Banker Bell, formerly Bell Realty, which was founded in 1960 by his Uncle James C. Bell.
Sheldon was a Master Mason at Raven Lodge 303 in Oswego, IL, member of the Scottish Rite – Valley of Chicago, Shriner at Medinah Temple in Chicago and a member of Phi Sigma Epsilon Fraternity. He was an avid pilot and involved in the community as a member of Grace United Methodist Church, First National Bank of Joliet Board of Directors, Center For Economic Development, Joliet Fire and Police Board, President of the Will County Board of Realtors (1967-1968), Illinois Realtor of the Year (1984)
Sheldon is survived by his wife Patricia F. and three daughters: Kristin (Thomas) Mulvey of Joliet, Melissa (Lloyd) Meinhart and Amy (Christopher) Dow, both of Shorewood. Also survived by seven grandchildren Dr. Megan (Dr. Darrin) Worthington, Patrick (Marika) Mulvey, Lauren (Alec) Sherman, Conner (Rachel) Meinhart, Matthew Meinhart, Benjamin and Emily Dow, and 4 great-granddaughters: Grace, Claire and Molly Worthington, and Eleanor Sherman. Also surviving are his two sisters: Lynn (Frank) Simmons and Justice Rita B. (late Gil) Garman and several nieces and nephews.
Proceeded in death by his parents: Sheldon F. and Ellen P. Bell and his great-granddaughter Rose Sherman.
A Memorial Service will be held, Wednesday July 26, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Grace United Methodist Church. Visitation Tuesday 3-7 p.m. at the Blackburn-Giegerich-Sonntag Funeral Home and Wednesday morning 10:00 a.m. until time of service at the church.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Joliet Junior College Foundation to establish the Sheldon C. Bell Business Scholarship Endowment.
