Rosemary (Tarizzo) Di Giulio, 89, of Joliet, IL passed away Tuesday, September 5, 2017. Rosemary was born on July 4, 1928 in Joliet to Anton and Elizabeth Tarizzo. She graduated from Joliet High School in 1946. Rosemary attended Joliet Junior College and Quincy College before earning a Bachelor of Science in Social Work from DePaul University. She was a faithful parishioner at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church and at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church. While attending St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Rosemary met her future husband Vincent Di Giulio at a church picnic. On August 18, 1951, Rosemary and Vince were married. Before permanently settling in Joliet, the happy couple lived in Peoria, IL and Ohio where Rosemary practiced social work. She was most proud of being the loving wife to her husband Vince and a dedicated mother and role model to her five children and thirteen grandchildren. The greatest joy in life was her family.
Rosemary was an active member of the community throughout her life, both in volunteer service and in social activities, holding numerous offices and chairing committees. She was a past president of Will Grundy County Medical Alliance, a member of the Visitation and Aid Society, a member and past secretary of the Women of Rotary, a Eucharistic Minister and Reader at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church and a member of the Theta Phi Alpha sorority. She was also a volunteer and Eucharistic Minister at Presence Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet, well into her late eighties. Her favorite pastimes included birdwatching, Bears football, and any of her grandchildren’s activities.
Rosemary is proceeded in death by her loving husband of 49 years, Dr. Vincent S. Di Giulio. She is survived by her five children: Ken Di Giulio (Cindy Pickworth) of Manhattan, Dr. Tom Di Giulio (Mary Wagner) of Barrington, Barb Di Giulio Bender (Doug Bender) of Richmond, VA., Kathy Di Giulio Skov (Steve Skov) of Cary, NC., and Roger Di Giulio (Sandy Newlin) of Downers Grove. She is also survived by her thirteen wonderful grandchildren: Anne Di Giulio, Sarah Di Giulio, Paul Di Giulio, Rose Di Giulio, Abby Bender, Kevin Bender, Erik Skov (Katie Hannan Skov), Lindsey Skov (Patrick Roberts), Adam Skov, Alex Skov, Katy Di Giulio, Anthony Di Giulio, and Ellie Di Giulio. She is also survived by her brother Dr. Richard Tarizzo (Marilyn Tarizzo) of Joliet as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was attended to by two wonderful caregivers, Lola Hamzat and Eula Barner, who cared and loved for Rosemary like family. Our family remains grateful to you.
The visitation is Friday, September 8, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Blackburn-Giegerich-Sonntag Funeral Home, 1500 Black Road in Joliet.
On Saturday, September 9, prayers will be held at the funeral home at 9:45 a.m. followed by a procession to St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church at 18 Woodlawn Avenue in Joliet, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Burial at Resurrection Cemetery, 200 W Romeo Road in Romeoville.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mrs. Rosemary Di Giulio’s name can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of America or the American Diabetes Association.
