LaVerne A. Carter

Age 92, passed away peacefully Monday, September 11, 2017 at his home.

Preceded in death by his wife of 67 years Mary (Busanelli) Carter; brothers Robert Carter, James Carter and Donald Carter; sisters Ruth Fairbairne, Frances Richardson, and Mable Rohmer; and his parents.

Survived by two daughters Kathleen (George) Brumund and Nancy (Robert) McDade; one son Douglas (Jane) Carter; grandchildren Julie (James Gielow) Brumund, Michael (Ashley) Carter and Matthew (Caroline) Carter; great-grandchildren MacKenzie Brumund and Jackson and Brody Carter and Emily Carter; several nieces and a nephew also survive.

Born and raised in Joliet to Ebbie and Jennie (Smith) Carter. Attended Joliet schools; served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946. He returned to Joliet and worked for the steel mill in Gary, IN and later for Commonwealth Edison for 36  years. He was a member of I.B.E.W. for 70 years. He enjoyed bowling and golfing and was proud of his hole-in-one. He and Mary loved to travel and spending winters in Florida.

Family and friends will gather at Blackburn-Giegerich-Sonntag Funeral Home on Monday, September 18, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. and proceed to Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery for full Military Honors at 1:30 p.m.

Memorials to Joliet Area Community Hospice or Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery Beautification fund in LaVerne's name would be appreciated.
