Bernadine M. Pirc (nee Marchando), age 79, passed away on Friday, July 21, 2017, at her home with her family by her side.
Bernie was a lifelong resident of Joliet, born 1938. She worked as a beautician for over 50 years and retired at age 77. She enjoyed her job because of her customers, who were like family. Many family members also had their hair cut by her. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Joliet and enjoyed spending time with “The Club”, comprised of special friends she’d known since high school.
Bernie loved to travel. She went on many trips over the years with family and good friends, including her favorite vacations to Hawaii, Alaska, Canadian Rockies, and Cooperstown, New York. She also loved to cook. Bernie was well-known for her carrot ring at Easter; potica, peanut butter balls, cookies and meatballs at Christmas; as well as lasagna, chicken and dumplings and so many more.
Bernie was beautiful inside and out, always thinking of others first. She enjoyed getting together with family and friends on holidays, and hosted Christmas every year. She often made lunch for her family on Sundays and would bring care packages to neighbors, earning her the nickname “Meals on Feet”. Bernie is remembered as an angel on earth, with her giving nature and infectious laughter that made everyone smile. She always lived life to the fullest and made each day special.
Bernie is survived by her children, Randy Pirc, Gary (Cristy) Pirc, Cheryl Pirc, Doug (Carole) Pirc; grandchildren, Lauren (fiancé Brandon) Pirc and Lucas Pirc, John (Kristin) Gidlund, Margaret (Ryan) McGee; sister, Angie (Eugene) Witt; sisters-in-law Dorothy (Ed-deceased) Briscoe, Maureen (Frank-deceased) Pirc and Carol (Robert-deceased) Mason; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
